First Passivhaus school in West Sussex

HNW Architects are delighted to be supporting Willmott Dixon as architect for the technical delivery of The Bedelands Academy in BurgessHill for West Sussex County Council. The new 900 pupil secondary school is aiming to be net carbon-zero in operation and the first #Passivhaus school in West Sussex.

The project aligns with our own sustainability roadmap and agenda, the building aims to achieve Passivhaus certification, reflecting ultra-low carbon emissions in operation, with an acute focus on energy efficiency, insulation, on-site energy generation and no use of fossil fuels in the running of the building. Further to this, the design seeks to minimise, as far as practicable, embodied carbon.

Faithful+Gould, Atkins and Cundall have developed the original design work for the Council and we are pleased to now be a part of this flagship project working closely and collaboratively alongside the client-side team to ensure that the delivery phases of this prestigious and ambitious project reflect the earlier stage design and sustainability aspirations
