Uxbridge College: New Performing Arts Centre Completion
Uxbridge College Performing Arts Centre: Completion
Our New Performing Arts Centre at Uxbridge College has been completed. This project forms the fourth consecutive phase of the HNW masterplan for the College campus. Follow this link to view details of the previous phases, including a new Six-Court International Standard Sports Hall, Motor Vehicle Workshops, Fitness Suite, Teaching and ICT Classrooms, Student Restaurant and Engineering Workshops.
The Phase included the construction of a new three storey teaching wing with substantial alterations and extension to the existing surrounding buildings - with significant refurbishment and over-cladding of the existing Entrance block. The Performing Arts Centre also incorporates a large, flexible exhibition area on the second floor with a glass barrel vault roof - allowing natural light to flood in. The design of this space includes a folding wall system which can be used to create three separate studio spaces, or unfolded to form the large exhibition space for the display of work and exhibits. The wall panels have been unusually hinged on a central pivot to enable them to be fixed on any angle on the track - this gives the College and the Students flexibility to use this entire space for a variety of different activities without the need for separate teaching/studio spaces and exhibition spaces.
This Phase was completed on time and budged by Beard Construction over a period of just 56 weeks. The project achieved a BREEAM sustainability rating of Excellent.
