LLDD Centre of Excellence, Barnet and Southgate College – New Centre Opens
The new LLDD Centre of Excellence for Barnet & Southgate College at their High Street campus, North London, is a two storey, 2,000sqm education facility for ‘Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities’. The new Centre, opened by Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE, has already received fantastic feedback by building users, visitors and the College Principal David Byrne.
The building contains a variety of learning spaces, including general teaching classrooms, training kitchens with cafe enabling students to develop real-life work skills. There is also a sports studio, drama studio, music room, gallery space and a secure sensory garden. Specialist spaces include a sensory room, hydrotherapy pool and rebound room, which is a totally padded room with a trampoline set into the floor. There is a home skills space that consists of a mock-up flat for learning basic home skills from preparing meals to making a bed. The building has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
