Brockenhurst College STEM Building: Internals

July 2016

The internal spaces are starting to take shape at the new purpose built STEM Building, designed by HNW Architects, at Brockenhurst College in the New Forest National Park. The photo above shows the new Co Lab working space which will enable students to work collaboratively in an open and flexible environment.

This high-tech project is a collaboration between the College, Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), computer Company IBM and the University of Southampton and facilities will include informal open plan spaces to promote a high quality private and group study space focussed on the STEM subjects. Virtual labs provide a dynamic and flexible educational space for curriculum delivery, with the latest technology procured in partnership with private stakeholders. Additional classroom spaces prove for flexible timetabling and internal resource management.

This proposal is designed to meet BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and incorporate both passive and state of the art sustainable features. The overall design of the building is to both assert its function as a dynamic and enthusiastic learning environment while respecting its location within the New Forest National Park.

Works are being carried out by Drew Construction Group and are targeting completion for the 2016/17 academic year
