Brockenhurst College STEM Building: Planning Approval
Planning Approval has been received for a new two storey STEM building, and associated hard and soft landscaping at Brockenhurst College. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This new build will replace temporary classroom accommodation, for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths teaching.
Facilities include informal open plan spaces to promote a high quality private and group study space focussed on the STEM subjects. Virtual labs provide a dynamic and flexible educational space for curriculum delivery, with the latest technology procured in partnership with private stakeholders. Additional classroom spaces prove for flexible timetabling and internal resource management.
This proposal is designed to meet a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ Sustainability rating, and incorporates both passive and state of the art sustainable features. The overall design of the building is to both assert its function as a dynamic and enthusiastic learning environment while respecting its unique and sensitive location within the New Forest National Park.
STEM subjects have been identified by the Government and Schools as being “integral to the UK’s success” in research, manufacturing and engineering. Follow this link to view an article on the importance and future of STEM subjects in education.
