HNW Architects are committed to minimising the impact on the environment both through the way we manage our offices and the buildings we design. We recognise that we are in a privileged position with regards to the products and services that we provide and therefore are committed to exercising our professional skills to ensure that we can assist our clients in achieving their environmental aspirations.
The practice has adopted an Environmental Management System designed to meet the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001:2004. The system covers all Architectural and Lead Consultancy services provided by the practice from its two closely linked offices in Chichester. This policy and associated procedures identify environmental aspects which can be controlled (ie. energy consumption, carbon emissions, use of natural resources and waste) and those which can be influenced (ie. sustainable design). No clauses from the Standard are excluded.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
The Directors retain responsibility for the Environmental Management System with routine operations controlled by the Environmental Manager. There is an ongoing commitment by all staff to continually improve environmental performance, prevent pollution and comply with relevant environmental legislation.
This Environmental Policy is supported by procedures contained with the practice’s Procedures Manual. The Procedures Manual covers both the Environmental Management and Quality Management Systems and includes further information regarding:
- The operation of the Environmental Aspects Register and Environmental Legislation Register.
- Methods of monitoring and reviewing environmental objectives and targets.
- Emergency planning procedures.
Through the implementation of the Environmental Management System the practice seeks to:
- Reduce energy consumption.
- Reduce carbon emissions.
- Reduce demand on raw materials and natural resources.
- Reduce waste and by-products.
- Produce sustainable buildings which aim to meet recognised environmental standards.
This Environmental Policy is made available to external organisations on request. The practice has decided not to communicate externally about its significant environmental aspects. The Environmental Manager is responsible for responding to any external communications regarding environmental matters. The policy and supporting procedures are published on the HNW Intranet to promote awareness and to ensure they are readily accessible to all staff.
